Radon gas mitigation in Gaithersburg MD
Challenge
This job involved a house that required radon mitigation due to high readings of radon gas. Initially, the customer believed they needed an entirely new radon extraction and piping system. However, upon inspection, we discovered that the house already had radon piping installed, but it needed to be activated; there was no mechanical device extracting the radon gas yet.
During the inspection, we also found that the radon pipes were being used to drain the air conditioner condensation. Additionally, there was no nearby electricity in the attic where the radon fan equipment was to be installed.
Solution
We addressed all these issues first by preparing the attic area electrically, ensuring proper drainage, and installing a radon gas fan. The pipe coming from the basement was connected under the concrete slab of the house, which we inspected. We identified radon entry points in the basement floor, which were also addressed to prevent carbon monoxide backdraft during radon gas extraction.
The customer was very pleased with all the work done in their house, especially because their family is now breathing safe air
